Area Description:

The region is situated in the south of Provence, and west of the Alpes Maritime1 between the NICE/CANNES area and MARSEILLE.

The area is rural, wine growing vineyards and forested hills being the main features of the landscape. The countryside around LE LUC is peacefully agricultural, insulated from the crowds and traffic congestion of the coastal resorts during peak tourist seasons. Being just a few kilometres from the A8 Autoroute, at either the LE LUC or the LE MUY junctions, LE LUC is ideally situated for easy access to all the main attractions on the Cote d’Azur.

LE LUC itself is an unspoilt typical small rural village of the area. It nestles in the valley of the beautiful River Argens, between densely forested mountains to the north west, and rolling hills in the south leading to the sea.

The historic town center, with it's narrow streets and little streams, watched over by the 27 meter high Hexagonal tower and the campanile of the Roman clock tower, offers a pleasant environment

As with most small towns and villages in the region, life revolves around the open market square, and LE LUC also boasts a public swimming pool, and tennis courts, with many superb golf courses nearby.

St-Tropez, Ste-Maxime and Port Grimaud are the nearest seaside towns, just under a half-hour drive away, as is the beautiful Plage Pampallone, three kilometres of sandy beaches with easy access and ample parking on the nearby sand dunes, between St.Tropez and Cavalaire. Although this beach is generally 'topless', across the bay at the Isle du Levant everyone is ‘au naturelle'!

An hour's drive travelling east along the A8 will take you to CANNES, NICE and MONTE CARLO,and MARSEILLE is an hour to the west. Another half an hour along the autoroute past Monte-Carlo and you can cross the border into Italy and enjoy the delights of SAN REMO and the Italian Riviera. Around the region are many opportunities for all types of recreational and sporting activities, as the attached map illustrates.

Area Activities

There are excellent restaurants and cafes nearby, and swimming and fishing in the L'Argens river. Many local Chateaux produce fine wines, especially the reds and roses, which are readily available to sample.

On Friday mornings, the village hosts its regional Market Fair. Other local village markets include St-Tropez (Saturday), Le Cannet des Maures and Lorgue (Tuesday), Flassans (Wednesday), Les Arcs (Thursday)and Le Muy (Sunday) These markets sell locally produced foods, clothing and handicrafts.

Occasionally the village also hosts the traditional French travelling family Circus Troupes, and there are fetes and fairgrounds set up in the village square during most public festivals.

Also in and around the village many other activities are available; these include horse-riding and pony-trekking, hunting and fishing, canoeing, antique fairs and archaeological site visits, and motor-cross racing. Additionally, during the winter months it's only 1OOkm to the magnificent ski resorts of Les Alpes du Sud

Notre Dame de Nazareth church and Clock tower(XIIth), Notre Dame du Mont Carmel church (XIVth) which hosts many beautiful art works (XVIIth century wood, Empire style organs, XVIth century stained glass) and a magnificent XVIIIth century sculptured chair, Hexagonal tower(1517), Centre Var History Museum, Regional Stamp Museum, Horse riding, leisure centre, karting, swimming pool, golf course.
