“Les Deux Cheveaux “ cottage - a superbly converted single level cottage adjoining the owners' farmhouse - one of three independent self-catering properties situated amidst spectacular scenery within a five-acre olive grove near Mons – the highest village in the Var region of Provence - in the hinterland behind the Cote d’Azur. The village of Mons is 3km away - not at all a tourist cliche village but retaining its’ integrity and historic uniqueness without compromising its’ centuries’ old legacy. The village has local shops for every day needs and several good restaurants and with a 15-20 minutes’ drive to Fayence there are lots more shops and a supermarket for a major “shop”. Les Deux Cheveaux is of outstanding quality and character throughout including exposed stonework and beams and traditionally tiled floors. Ideally south-facing there are delightful views over the gardens and swimming pool to the hills beyond from the rustique private terrace which has plenty of shade when required and an outside dining area with gas barbecue. There are two other smaller but similarly superb properties in a separate elevated area of the grounds – "Le Gite" sleeping two guests and "Le Loge du Chauffer" sleeping four guests - and these properties also have shared use of the beautiful solar heated swimming pool and children’s paddling pool with guests renting Les Deux Cheveaux. The owners’ attention to detail and sheer quality in everything they provide is rewarded in a unique and privileged location - totally informal but small and exclusive for a real “away from it all” holiday in the unspoilt heart of Provence. For larger groups of family or friends wishing to holiday together and yet retain a degree of independence all three properties can be reserved together sleeping a total of 12 guests. In addition to the interior quality and character of the cottage the level of equipment and facilities are exceptional – including dishwasher, washing machine, television, video player with a selection of English tapes and hifi system with cd/cassette player . Household linen and towels are provided.

Area Description:

Mons - the highest village in the departement of the Var - is built on an enormous rocky cragg and from here there is a fabulous view as far as the mediterranean and islands of Lerins, the Maures mountains and if it's really a clear day even Corsica. Mons is an intact and totally unspoilt and peaceful medieval village with picturesque narrow streets, archways and sturdy hewn stone houses. In the summer the open-air cafes on Place St. Sebastien offer a cool haven from the provencal sunshine beside the fountains and to enjoy the unbelievable views. Just bejond Fayence and Callian there is the big swimming lake - "Lac St Cassien " - 25 minutes’ drive from the property with sandy coves for relaxing and swimming and also boat hire, fishing, sailing and pedaloes and there are cycle and walking tracks into the hills and countryside. Here there are also several brasserie restaurants/cafe bars so it all makes for a very enjoyable day or half-day much enjoyed by children and quite a change from the cottage pool or the beach. The glitz of the Riviera beaches and resorts are also easily accessible – from 45 minutes’ by car - for days on the beach or visits to some of the famous resorts such Cannes or Monte Carlo and even the Italian border is only 90 minutes’ away
