Area Description:

Situated on the border between the departments of the Var and Bouches du Rhone - just a few kilometres from the sea -Ceyreste is a picturesque village which was established during the barbarian invasions by the inhabitants of La Ciotat down on the coast as a refuge inland. Ceyreste has preserved part of its surrounding walls and the fortified gates, as well as several 17th-century houses which give the village a great deal of charm. There are unusual “cabarottes” - covered passages which span the shady, winding streets and a Roman fountain in front of which there is a heavy stone trough - formerly the church font. The fortified church dates from the Middle Ages and is listed as a historic monument and in the choir there is a lovely copy of the Raphaël “Transfiguration”. The coast is 5/10 minutes’ drive away – with the resort of La Ciotat only 5km from Ceyreste - with lots of restaurants and fine sandy beaches the nearest. To the west a drive of 10-20 minutes offers a further choice of family resorts – Les Lecques, Bandol or Sanary and 10 minutes to the east one of the jewels of the whole of the south of France – the superb fishing village of Cassis is 15km away. For a change from the coast a 10 minutes drive inland to the spectacular medieval perched villages of La Cadiere d’Azur and Le Castellet. There some local shops in Ceyreste and a weekly market on Friday mornings and every day of the week a different provencal market is within a short drive at one of the neighbouring villages
