Property Description:

The house is very old and probably dates to before the 18th century. It is situated on the one road leading up into higher parts of the village.

The house has been renovated in keeping with the style of the area and is on three levels. From the street you walk into an open plan living room/kitchen with a modest but functional kitchen and working fireplace. The kitchen is fully equipped including a fully automatic washing machine.

There are two double bedrooms simply but attractively furnished, one with a double bed on the top floor and the other has two single beds. The top bedroom leads onto the roof terrace, which has excellent views of the village and surrounding mountains and is equipped with garden furniture and an umbrella. It provides an ideal setting to enjoy the evening with a glass of wine while watching the stars.

Area Description:

The Village
The village is situated in beautiful Provencal countryside with fields of vineyards, fruit trees, melons, lavender and sunflowers. It nestles in an area surrounded by magnificent mountains including Mont Ventoux. The village is small but very picturesque and like all French villages has its own mairie (town hall). You will find the mairie in the village square which has a fountain and beautiful plaine trees providing shade from the summer heat. The locals play boule here in the summer and children cycle. Higher up in the village is an old small church and a chateau, which has been converted into a family house as has the old boulangerie.

There are no shops in the village but you can buy fresh bread from the friendly cafe¯²estaurant – Chez Claudette. The owner, Claudette, makes lovely coffee or you can have a cool pression (draught beer)or a pastis the traditional aperitif. Children are always welcome and you can get excellent set meals.

You can walk or cycle or drive up into the hills surrounding the village. You will pass the cemetry and continue up where you will find picnic areas at the top of the mountain. It really is very beautiful.

Area Activities

Food and wine
The nearest town Tulette, with shops is about 4 kilometers away. There you can find superb patisserie and boulangerie shops, a very good boucherie and two small supermarkets. There are larger supermarkets within easy reach. Many towns and villages have their own weekly out door market. These are absolutely wonderful. Full of fresh fruit, vegetables, fresh fish, cheese, olives, flowers, lavender, and provencal herbs and fabrics and I could go on and on.

The area is famous for its Cotes du Rhone wines and wine tasting is commonly practiced. Many of the smaller wine makers are very friendly and will discuss the wine making process with you if you are interested. We have left some wine books at the house (although quite out of date now) and some suggestions of wine places to visit.

There are also many good restaurants in the region and again we have left a list of our favourite restaurants. There is Le Moulin d'Huile in Vaison, Les Florets in Gigondas, La Table de Comtat,in Seguret and many more.

Places of interst
You can hire bicycles and really enjoy the countryside, the different smells, sounds and colours. There are many wonderful scenic walks both in the village and nearby and numberous interesting places to visit such as: the fontaine de Vaucluse, the Dentelles mountains, the Roman amphitheatre at Orange, the Palais des Papes in Avignon, Arles, the Roman ruins and old village in Vaison la Romaine and much much more. The nearest river to the house is the Aigue but often there is not much water in the summer. The Ardeche and Toulerenc rivers are definitely worth a visit as is the Pont du Garde. There are municipal swimming pools in many of the villages including, Tulette and Vaison la Romaine. Not far from Tulette (on the road to Nyons) is a place called Sagittaire, which features a man-made lake, several outdoor swimming pools, along with a cafe/restaurant, a small supermarket, miniature golf, and other attractions. Or if you prefer the coast the Mediterranean is only 2 hours drive away.

Each season has something special to offer. In the autumn you can find delicious edible mushrooms in the mountains above the village and the autumn colours are breathtaking. In summer there are many village festivals some around a theme of wine or lavender or simply to celebrate summer. The house is an ideal place to relax and enjoy the sun and the local surroundings or as a base from which to explore Provence.
