Property Description:

La Fenice is the original “mas” which has been carefully restored and tastefully decorated, with a stone fireplace and terracotta floor tiling throughout. The villa and the grounds, at the top of the village (the lane stops just past your back door) with incredible views of the Luberon national park were part of the old castle compound . At an altitude of 600m, the nights in Montjustin are clear, beautiful and comfortable, even in the warmest summer days.

Two interconnecting stone vaults (wonderfully cool in summer) give the house a unique character. The kitchen, sited into one of them, has all modern amenities and features directional spotlighting, fitted cupboards, dishwasher, breakfast bar, indoor barbecue, oven, gas and electric rings. The second stone vault is a combined living/dining room with open fireplace. Behind the kitchen there is a huge utility room with sink, washing machine and pool equipment – everything a family needs for a comfortable holiday.

There is ample living space with a generous upstairs lounge, featuring a Provencal fireplace and picture windows overlooking the valley below, opening into one of the two spacious terraces with wonderful views (in particular the sunset!). A double bedroom reached via the lounge has an en suite bathroom with a WC. An additional WC is also on this floor.

On the ground floor there is an additional sitting or play area. A twin bedroom is next to the sitting area. A third bedroom (double or twin) is on the first floor with a private terrace overlooking the pool and access to the main terrace. A bathroom with a WC serves these three rooms, thus completing a self-contained unit. .

Outside, the quarter acre (1000 sq. m) garden offers panoramic views over the beautiful Luberon countryside and the Alps. It contains a 8 x 4m landscaped, floodlit pool with night blanket, surrounding terraces and plentiful garden furniture including a mobile barbecue - perfect for taking advantage of the many beautiful sunny days enjoyed in the area.

Area Description:

The Luberon protected national park is famous for its beautiful, unspoiled nature, brilliant weather and picturesque old market towns and villages.

La Fenice is in a stunning position looking out from the old bastion of Montjustin just 2.5 km from the main Luberon route – National 100. It is situated in the Luberon National Park where not only the nature is unspoiled, so is the air. Less than 10 Km away is Saint Michel l’Observatoire with its huge telescopes, built in this location because of the quality of the air and the clear nights.

Just down the road is a traditional restaurant with a charming outdoor setting. Only 6 km away in Cereste are a good selection of shops, a weekly market and several good restaurants. In the surrounding villages you will find excellent restaurants, listed by gourmet guides, as well as shops selling local produce, such as the famous Banon goat cheese.

Montjustin is ideally situated to discover the area. The fascinating old market towns of Apt, Forcalquier and Manosque are only twenty minutes away; Avignon and Aix en Provence an hour’s drive; Marseille Airport and the Mediterranean a further quarter of an hour.

Area Activities

La Fenice is a wonderful place to relax but it’s equally a superb base for exploring the Gorges du Verdon (an immense and magnificent canyon which is unique in Europe), the Fontaine de Vaucluse, the Camargue (National Park in the Rhone delta) and the Roman towns of Provence (of which there are too many to list) – all within easy reach for a day trip.

Shopping for everything from the excellent local produce to French antiques is easily within reach. Each day there is a market in one of the surrounding towns and villages and every Sunday, the biggest antique market outside of Paris is held in L’Isle sur la Sorgue, less than an hour away.

Wine has been made in Provence since Roman times. While less famous than the Bordeaux or Burgundy wines, the quality of the wines of Provence have gained a worldwide reputation. Among the best are the Coteaux de Pierrevert AOC wines - try a glass of rose at lunch next to the pool, a white while watching the sunset from the terrace and a red with the dinner. Pierrevert is 15 km away and many wineries are open for visits and tasting.

For the more active holiday goers, the beautiful Luberon golf course (http://www.golfinfrance.f9.co.uk/luberongolfcourse.htm) is 15 km away, Cereste has excellent tennis courts, and horse riding is minutes away in the valley.

Finally, this is a wonderful walking country. Whether you want to take a short stroll to the ruins of the 16th century church, a leisurely walk to the village cemetery or longer walks through the park, they all start at your doorstep. Superb walks can be taken particularly via the medieval path that links Manosque to Apt (more widely known as the GR4) and which traverses Montjustin.
