Area Description:

Roujan is a circular, medieval village with narrow streets and an authentic rural community charm. The village offers many amenities including a wonderful butcher, two bakers, two cafes, a hairdresser, a newsagent, a grocery and many more. There are numerous restaurants nearby and the village is surrounded by vineyards offering samples of their wines.
The house is located in the heart of the splendid Languedoc wine growing region, renowned for its rolling hills, castles, historical buildings and village festivals. It is only 10 minutes to the market town of Pezenas, 30 minutes to the Mediterranean beaches and picturesque fishing villages, and 30 minutes to the National Parks and inland lakes.
The enchanting town of Pezenas is of historical interest in itself being the place Moliere (a famous French writer) adopted as his home. The town features superb architecture from the 13th through to the 19th centuries. This vibrant artisan town is a delight to explore with its specialty shops, pavement cafes and restaurants, galleries and antiques stores. It also has an all day produce market on Saturdays and shops are open late on Wednesdays and Fridays during the summer months. A festival of Arts and Music is held in Pezenas every summer from June until September.
Within 30 minutes of Roujan there are miles of sandy beaches and many quaint French fishing villages. The fishing ports of Meze, Bouzigues and Marseillan are some of our favourite places for fabulous seafood dining. And of course, the port of Sete is a must for all seafood lovers!
This region is also has a wealth of Greek and Roman history which can be seen at Agde, Nimes, Narbonne and museums of Beziers. Inland there are castles to explore, with the walled city of Carcassonne a great world heritage attraction
For the more adventurous, the area offers plenty of outdoor activities such as canoeing, white water rafting, climbing and walking in the National Parks to the north of Roujan. Lake Salagou, only 30 minutes away, is suitable for swimming and offers a full calendar of events in the summer.
Montpellier and Bezier are the cultural centres of the region, offering galleries and concerts throughout the year. They also provide a wide variety of shops for the serious shoppers!
These are only a few of the many attractions in the Herault region, and there are all within an easy drive from Roujan.
