Property Description:

Le Beffroi (The Clockhouse) is an elegantly restored (2004) former stable and barn, with a clock tower, mostly newly built but in the traditional design of the pigeonniers of the Tarn. Le Beffroi is part of a beautifully restored secluded property, Le Puech Haut, home of an English family for more that 18 years.

Le Beffroi can sleep six very comfortably, with three beautifully decorated bedrooms, one double and two twins, including one twin (3 beds) upstairs in the clock tower. There are two large bathrooms, one en suite, and a further loo. The main room is a high-ceilinged sixteen by six metre (50ft by 20ft) kitchen-dining-living room, which faces South and has French windows onto a south-west-facing terrace. The kitchen has dishwasher and washing machine, gas stove with electric oven, fridge freezer and microwave. There are many books and TV with a library of more than 200 English language family videos, and a Sony radio CD sound system.

Le Beffroi is surrounded by its owned lawned garden area, and shares access with the main house, to the 12 metre by 6 metre saltwater pool surrounded by olive trees. Le Beffroi is available all year round, and can be booked along with the main house for parties of 14 or more between mid-July and the end of August. Please visit our website: Le Beffroi

Area Description:

Real, in the commune of Roquemaure, is near the borders of the Tarn and Haute-Garonne departments, only 30 minutes from the centre of Toulouse and 35 minutes to Blagnac airport.
The nearest shop is in Mirepoix-sur-Tarn, at 4 kilometres. Real is about 5k from three other old market towns, all on the banks of the Tarn and each with its own market day – Rabastens (Saturday) Saint Sulpice (Wednesday) and Bessieres (Monday). The landscape is open with rolling hills and wide valleys, pretty villages on the top of hills and almost every corner offers spectacular views.

We are on the borders of the thousand year-old wine growing region of Gaillac, (15K), and there are many local vignerons offering tasting and buying from their own properties. The area is also famous for its ancient hilltop bastide villages, build in the 13th and 14th Centuries as protection against marauding English. The Pyrenees, and the beaches and fishing towns of the Narbonne-Agde-Sete Mediterranean coast are two hours drive to the south.

The area is full of medieval towns and villages. There are markets, museums, cathedrals and old buildings.
Rabastens (5km) - Market Saturday am in the shade of the Plane trees. Shops and a hotel with restaurant
Saint-Sulpice (6km) Market on Wednesdays; beautiful church, bustling town square, and the best butcher, M. Darnise
Lisle-Sur-Tarn 13th century village, beautiful square with arches all round, market Sunday am
Gaillac (13km) - Market Friday am Winetasting at "La Maison du Vin". Lots of shops, supermarkets and restaurants..
Cordes (25km) - Breathtaking medieval hilltop village. Tourist shops and restaurants.
Castelnau de Montmiral - (14 km) Impressive hilltop village, officially one of the prettiest in France. Shops and two restaurants.
Puycelci - (12 km) Another fortified village. Restaurants.
Albi - (25 km) Beautiful historic town on the river Tarn, birthplace of Toulouse Lautrec. Fantastic 13 century cathedral and the Lautrec museum.
Toulouse (45 km) - The fourth largest city in France, "La Ville Rose", is the place for exploring, smart shopping, restaurants, historic buildings and art galleries. A covered market is open almost every morning with a number of small restaurants above.

Area Activities

Sports
Golf - Four golf courses within 25 km
Riding - Several riding centres for lessons or hire
Cycling - In the forests nearby or along the little paths or roads criss-crossing the countryside. Bicycle available.
Swimming and windsurfing - Several big lakes in the area
Fishing - Cards available in the local village. Specialist shops with hire facilities in Gaillac. Private lakes or rivers with plenty of fish.
Canoeing – The Aveyron river, 45 minutes to the north, offers splendid canoeing, with a large number of rental companies in the area.

Wine and Food
Within five minutes drive, and for a hundred kilometres in every direction, are wine growers; Our region has many different small individual vineyard areas, each with its own distinctive qualities.
Gaillac: Our local appellation, more than a thousand years old, has more than 100 growers including many English viticulteurs. Rabastens co-operative also has sparkling, dry white, rose, red, sweet and sherry-style wine to cater for all tastes, while one of the local specialities is aBlanc Perle which goes very well with all sorts of fish dishes..
North of Montauban is the area of Cahors, Also nearby are Fronton, near Toulouse, with soft fruity reds and rose, while Madiran, in the Gers, west of Toulouse, has full-bodied, slow maturing reds, with Chateau Montus the most famous, and their own very individual "Pacherenc de Vic Bihl" whites, both dry and sweet.
In Jurancon, to the south of Madiran, you can find one of the most unusual and distinctive whites, fruity and flinty, often drunk as an aperitif .
Further South, around Carcassone, are the giant wine production areas of Minervois and Corbieres: Both areas make a variety of reds, generally more interesting than their rather flat whites.
