Fully-equipped accommodation with a fireplace in the charming courtyard of Priory St Martial, set in a peaceful park amongst a sea of vines and fields in the beautiful Languedoc country side, 5 kms from Pezenas and 20 kms from Beziers, the seaside and the Canal du Midi


Dating mainly from the 18th century (remains of its 8th century Roman and 15th century origins), the Priory St Martial has been carefully restored into a harmonious mix of modern comfort and old charm.

The 11 suites have each their own small private garden or terrace equipped with teak garden furniture and a barbecue and are individually decorated and furnished with 18th and 19th century country furniture, scattered with carpets and contemporary paintings.

All the apartments have television and kitchens equipped with a dishwasher and washing machine, an oven and hob, a fridge/freezer or fridge with freezer compartment, microwave, coffee maker and kettle, toaster and ironing facilities. Nine of the eleven apartments have central heating.

There are two large swimming pools, one with a children's pool, both heated outside the summer months. The third pool is a 4 x 8 metre heated indoor pool, maintained at a temperature of 25 degrees all year round. There is also a sauna for 8 people.

Pezenas, 5 kms, is an attractive market town. Once the prosperous seat of the ruling council of Languedoc with a busy cultural life that attracted some of the great writers and thinkers of the day, the centre of the town with its elaborate mansions has hardly changed since the 16th century.

Pezenas has a wonderful Saturday morning market full of fresh local produce, plants and flowers, cheeses, meats and seafood, and of course wine. There are cafes and bistros, a variety of shops, antiques shops where you can often find a bargain and, in the oldest part of town, several craft shops.

You have a lot of activities nearby, such as golf, riding, sailing, fishing, walking (Parc Naturel du Haut Languedoc et Caroux), sand Mediterranean beaches, and also a lot of very famous towns to visit: Beziers and the Canal du Midi, Sete, Montpellier. Abbeys: Fontfroide, Valmagne, St Guilhem le Desert. Also well worth a visit : Etang de Thau (lagoon with famous oyster and mussel beds), Carcassonne and the Cathar Castles.
