Property Description:
A very beautiful house on two floors with large rooms and a shady vine covered terrace, set in a pretty garden. It is situated between the picturesque market towns of Duras to the south and Ste Foy la Grande on the Dordogne river to the North, in a unique wine growing area of France.
The charm and atmosphere of the old house have been faithfully retained but it doesn't’t lack modern conveniences. The walls inside are whitewashed and we have retained the original old floor tiles and floor boards; however the beds are very comfortable, there is a coal fired Aga, a washing machine and a dishwasher and a modern bathroom with a huge cast iron bath. The kitchen is equipped with French crockery and the beds have embroidered linen which comes from the local markets. This is a much loved house which has genuine character.

The Bathroom
Ground Floor
Large kitchen with a long refectory table, simple hand-made units with a butlers sink and an enormous maple dresser. The Aga is used for cooking in the colder months when it also heats the water and there is a gas/electric stove for use in summer. From the kitchen there is a door that leads directly out into the garden and onto the vine covered terrace which provides perfect dappled shade for summer dining. The kitchen also connects with the hall and larder area (including the washing machine and fridge).
Bathroom
Bedroom with a wonderful Spanish double bed.
1st floor
Large sitting room which has a Louis XVI fireplace and overlooks the front garden and the fields at the back. As the terrace tends to become the sitting room in the summer the use of the single bed in the corner of the room works perfectly well.
Main bedroom with a large double bed, French armoire and a pedestal basin.
The property has an orchard with plums, apples, cherries and pears and a garden with lawns, lilacs and flower beds. At the back of the house is a field where the neighbours graze their cows, which is bordered with trees on one side and slopes down to a small stream.
If you are looking for something different and enjoy the countryside, wild flowers and birds, walking or simply sitting out on the terrace in a delightful environment then you will be happy here.
Area Description:
There are a wealth of excursions to be made: Montaigne’s Tower, the bastides of the Dordogne, canoeing and swimming on the Dordogne, or a day trip to the coast west of Bordeaux. For those who enjoy cooking there are the local markets which have the most wonderful produce.
