At a walking distance of just 250 m. behind the house lies Lake Aureilhan. You can see the lake from the house. It is a lovely lake, perfect for sailing, rowing and fishing, or to take a swim.
The beaches of the Atlantic Ocean in Mimizan Plage are just 4 km. away on bike or 6 km. by car.
House Duchesse lies on the road from Mimizan to Sainte Eulalie, 2 km. away from the village of Mimizan, opposite the Mimizan Golf Course, in a quiet setting amidst the forests of Les Landes, with a nice view on the sea dunes.
The interior of the house is in chalet style, with lawns and terraces all around the house and a spacious 3500 m2 garden with big trees to sit in the shade.
The house has a living room, dining room, kitchen, washing kitchen, 2 bathrooms, 4 bedrooms and a mezzanine, is well equipped and can accommodate 11 people.
The house lies on the former property of Chateau Woolsack built by the duke of Westminster in 1910 as an exact copy of House Woolsack in Capetown, South Africa, owned by his friend Cecil Rhodes.
He used the Chateau for hunting and horseriding with his friends, amongst them Winston Churchill, who came here often to relax and make paintings, Charly Chaplin a fervent horse rider, Coco Chanel, who designed a part of the property and many others.
After his demise in 1953 his personnel inherited the property The former stables of the Chateau were transformed into a mainhouse, now called House Duchesse, and 2 seperate apartments in the sidewing of the U-shaped building, also available for rent.

In front of the house is a biking path that leads to the beach and neighbouring village.
Daytrips are recommended to the Bordeaux wine estates, the Armagnac area, Biarritz and the Pyrenees, all at 1-2 hrs. drive away.

The golfcourse is at your doorstep.
250 m. behind the house lies Lake Aureilhan. You can row or sail at the Club Nautique or have a swim or fish in the sweet water.
Paragliding is organised at the airfield of Mimizan.
There are walking- and biking paths all around in the area.
Mimizan Plage has beautiful white sandy beaches on the ocean. It is a popular sea-resort, especially for surfers. There are resorts for thelasso therapy.
Some of the most beautiful golfcourses in France are just 50 km. away from Mimizan.
For a day trip we recommend the wine-area of Bordeaux, the Armagnac area, the Pyrenees and the lovely Bask countryside, Biarritz and St. Sebastian in Spain.
