Area Description:

Le Bourg, Moussac sur Vienne, is in Poitou-Charentes, about half way down the West side of France and reputedly the sunniest region after Provence. Moussac is a small rural village in a relatively undiscovered part of rural France with its lush and verdant countryside and medieval towns.
There is a well stocked village and two bars just a short stroll from the house and the nearest town, L'Isle Jourdain, is just 5 minutes away for shops, supermarket, street market, places to eat etc. Some excellent restaurants can be found only 10 minutes away.
The area is a paradise for walkers, cyclists, anglers, gourmets, golfers and makes an ideal base for those house hunting in the region.

Moussac is just 40 minutes from Poitiers airport (Ryanair), an easy 6 hours drive from Calais or 4 hours from Caen.

Area Activities

There are many tourist attractions within easy reach.

There are many signposted walks around the countryside of Vienne, including one Grande Randonnee that starts from Moussac itself. The area is also superb for cycling, with varied terrain and quiet roads.

The region boasts several theme parks and many other tourist attractions within easy reach. La Vallee des Singes (Monkey Valley) is well worth a visit, a safari park where you walk rather than drive. Also nearby is L’Isle aux Serpents ( Snake Island) and Les Geants du Ciel (Falconry Show) in the magnificent medieval chateau of Chauvigny. Whilst in Chauvigny you can hire a cycle car and pedal along a disused railway track (Le Velo-rail).

The lively university town and walled city of Poitiers is only 40 minutes’ drive. Here you may visit the many historic churches and other magnificent buildings, shop for French fashions in one of the chic shopping centres, watch the world go by over coffee or a beer in one of the pavement cafes and, if you can still manage it, have dinner in one of the superb restaurants. You will need at least a whole day to visit the nearby renowned Futuroscope, a futuristic park featuring the evolution of images.

Nearby there is the Val de Vienne motor racing circuit, where throughout the season there is racing of all kinds, from motorbikes to sports cars, single seaters, and classics. Also for classic car enthusiasts, there is the annual Circuit des Remparts car race through the town of Angouleme, 1 ½ hours drive from Moussac, which is also host to a Food Festival and the Comic Strip festival and is a town worth visiting in its own right.

Also well worth a visit and all within very easy reach are the towns/cities of Montmorillon – celebrated for art & literature; St Savin with its magnificent Abbey; Oradour sur Glane – a poignant memorial to show the Nazi atrocities that took place there during the 2nd World War; Lussac Les Chateaux – caves with early dwellers’ paintings, fishing lake, museum; Angle sur L’Anglin, officially designated one of the most beautiful villages in France

If all this seems a bit too active, then the house is equipped with garden furniture and a barbecue for warm weather, or you can just relax indoors. The choice is yours.

These are just a taste of the many places to visit and things to do. You will need more than two weeks to experience all that the area has to offer.
