Property Description:

Enter the waterfront home Villa Carmen through a foyer that opens into a large, welcoming living room/dining room or “sejour.” At its far end, two sets of glass-paned doors lead to a terrace that accommodates outside dining. The kitchen is fully equipped with modern appliances and seats four for breakfast around an island. Store your rental bikes and beach gear in the attached garage. There is parking in front of the house.

With two of its four upstairs bedrooms facing the Bay of Maumusson, Villa Carmen sleeps eight comfortably. Three bedrooms are furnished with queen-sized beds; one has a bunk bed. A crib is also available. All recently updated to include a commode, sink, and stall shower, two of the four bathrooms are located adjacent to the kitchen and on the upper floor landing, with the remaining two built as private baths in two bedrooms. Linens and towels are provided.

From Villa Carmen you can take day trips to historic districts, antiques markets, and vineyards in La Rochelle, Cognac, Marennes, Rochefort, Saintes, and Bordeaux…or, you may choose to relax in the sun on the terrace and listen to the gentle waves slapping the shore.

Ile de Re is just passed La Rochelle to the north by about an hour's drive. It is an island rich in culture, and summer home to many of France's celebrities and politicians.

General information about the department of Charente Maritime is available in english, french and german. The area is rich in history and offers chateaux (La Gataudiere, Chateau D'Oleron), walled cities (Brouage, Talmont), and Roman architecture all within an hour's drive of Villa Carmen.

La Tremblade/Ronce les Bains

Miles of beautiful Atlantic Ocean beaches can be reached by car or by bicycle along paved trails winding through pine forests. The largest zoo in France in La Palmyre, and the Luna funpark are both within a 15-minute drive. Every July and August evening, an arcade with games, rides, musical performances, and entertainment events fill the Place Brochard in town. Windsurfs, sailboats, four-wheeled all terrain vehicles, motorbikes, and bicycles can be rented. Local vineyards and oyster farms invite you to stop and taste or “deguste” their finest fare. Visit crafts merchants in the walled city of Brouage, built in 1555; Stroll the small streets of Mornac sur Seudre; visit St-Pierre de Sales in Marennes to see the region from one of it's highest points; the seaside resort of Royan; the Novotel Thalassa Spa on Ile d'Oleron, or Ile d’Aix, famous for its mother-of-pearl.

Treat yourself to life in a small French village. The daily market offers everything from the day’s catch of seafood, to prime cuts of meat, fresh produce, prepared meals, linens, housewares, sandals, and sundries. Ronce les Bains has restaurants—from cafes and pizzerias, to fine dining, a French-language movie theater, grocery, pharmacy, and patisseries (bakeries).
